Like humans, dogs love to eat too!
Dogs can also have a big appetite. They love to eat once they smell food. They would even dare to ‘steal’ food to satisfy their cravings. As a result, dogs are also prone to obesity.
Kai, a dog from Alberta, Canada, was once obese until he was rescued and given a second chance in life.
Kai is a Golden Retriever who weighs 173 pounds when Misfits of Alberta Animal Rescue rescued him. His previous owner brought him to the animal clinic to be put to sleep. However, the veterinarian refused to do the procedure because he believed that Kai could be given another chance in life.
The doctor then contacted Misfits of Alberta Animal Rescue for help. The rescue center looked for a foster parent for Kai. Pam Heggie decided to foster Kai because she felt the urgent need to help the dog. Kai’s weight may pose future health problems if he is not going to get medical intervention.
Kai needs to lose about 100 pounds from his weight. The vet pleaded to Pam to take care of Kai.
Kai had a hard time adjusting to his new life with Pam.
Pam had a hard time looking for a collar that would fit on Kai. He has a big neck that even the largest size available in the market can’t fit on him.
Kai also had a hard time walking due to his weight. He can only walk for a few steps, and he would pant heavily afterwards. Kai would even take 20 minutes to climb the stairs going to the front door.
Kai needs to work hard to achieve the ideal weight for his breed. Thankfully, Pam is determined to help him. She is willing to do everything to put Kai back in shape.
Pam is very patient in taking care of Kai. Slowly, Kai is showing progress. Pam makes sure that Kai would get the right amount of nutrition on his meals daily. Kai even does water therapy to strengthen his hind legs.
Pam sees that Kai is also working hard in his weightloss program. Despite the difficulty in doing the tasks, Kai is still one happy dog. Kai remained positive and determined.
Kai was able to lose 100 pounds in one year, hooray!
